Woooow! This is amazing, Bella looks great! I can’t wait until Breaking Dawn Part 2!

Message from Stephenie Meyer
23 Feb 2012 / admin

Over the week, there were some rumors flying around that Stephenie was ‘annoyed’ with the talk of another Twilight Saga movie. Good to know that this was NOT true.

Hey all,

Just wanted to clear up a little rumor making the rounds. I have absolutely no issues with anyone at Lionsgate. Far from being a negative thing, it’s actually a very nice feeling to know that both Lionsgate and Summit would like to make another Twilight movie if I were ever to write another Twilight book. So, thanks for the support, Lionsgate and Summit. I look forward to working for the first time with new friends at Lionsgate and working again with my old friends at Summit!

‘Breaking Dawn’ Continues to Dominate Home Video Charts
23 Feb 2012 / admin

Via Hollywood Reporter:

Summit Entertainment’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 remained the nation’s top-selling disc for the second consecutive week, while a flurry of retail promotions – some tied to the Valentine’s Day holiday — sent a handful of recent releases skyrocketing back up the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart.

Breaking Dawn also topped Home Media Magazine’s video rental chart in its first full week of release. Sony Pictures The Rum Diary, a theatrical underperformer based on gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson’s famous early novel, debuted at No. 2, bumping the previous week’s top seller, Drive, also from Sony, to No. 3.

Breaking Dawn Part 1 Sold 3.2 million discs, 50,000 downloads and 80,000 VOD.

Via Hollywood Reporter

Summit says that the penultimate film was also downloaded 50,000 and counted 80,000 VOD transactions.

Summit Entertainment is going out with a bang. The company, which last month announced it is being acquired by Lionsgate for $412.5 million in cash and stock, scored the top-selling home entertainment release of the week – and, so far, the year – with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.

Released last Saturday instead of the previous Tuesday, the latest installment in the hugely successful vampire-movie franchise was in stores for only two days during the week-long tracking period. Even so, Summit said it sold 3.2 million discs, 50,000 downloads and 80,000 VOD transactions on those two days.

Not surprisingly, Breaking Dawn easily bowed at No. 1 on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert overall disc sales chart.

Breaking Dawn was followed in the No. 2 spot by fellow newcomer Lady and the Tramp, from Walt Disney Studios, making its Blu-ray Disc debut. The No. 3 spot went to a third new release, A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas, the third installment in Warner/New Line’s edgy, stoner-buddy comedy franchise, which grossed $35 million in theaters.

On Nielsen’s dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart, Lady and the Tramp narrowly edged out Breaking Dawn as the week’s top seller. Very Harold and Kumar Christmas bowed at No. 3.

Just 25 percent of Breaking Dawn’s overall sales came from the Blu-ray Disc edition, compared to 38 percent for Harold and Kumar.

On Home Media Magazine’s weekly video rental chart, Breaking Dawn debuted at No. 3, behind holdovers Drive, from Sony (repeating at No. 1) and Disney’s Real Steel (repeating at No. 2).

Lionsgate: ‘Breaking Dawn — Part 1’ Disc Sales to Rival ‘Eclipse’
12 Feb 2012 / admin

Source:

With the Feb. 10 midnight release of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1 taking place at Walmart, Target and other retail outlets, new Summit Entertainment owner Liongate is expecting disc sales of the fourth installment of the popular teen vampire franchise to match packaged media sales of the third film, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

Speaking Feb. 10 in an analysts’ call to discuss third-quarter fiscal results, Steve Beeks, president and co-COO of Lionsgate, said the earlier packaged media release (compared to March time frame for the previous titles) was intended to capitalize on Valentine’s Day. Beeks wouldn’t divulge how manyBreaking Dawn discs were shipped for the launch, but Eclipse sold about 3 million units (Blu-ray and DVD) in the first 48 hours of release, according to media reports.

“It’s positioned to perform at a level that’s fairly close, if not right on the results of Eclipse,” Beeks said.

Indeed, Eclipse eventually sold about 7.1 million discs — 400,000 discs less than The Twilight Saga: New Moon with more than 7.5 million discs sold, according to The-Numbers.com. Both titles paled in comparison to the original release, The Twilight Saga, which sold more than 10.7 million discs.

Beeks said Lionsgate, which acquired Summit in January for $412.5 million, still is familiarizing itself with Summit’s distribution in place for “Twilight” movies with Universal Studios Home Entertainment. Lionsgate distributes select titles through 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.

“In the future we will look to consolidate our operations through one logistics system and one vendor,” Beeks said. “Until that happens we are operating two separate slates under both the Lionsgate and Summit labels and we will distribute each through those existing vendor relationships for the time being.”

He said that meant Lionsgate would be distributing Summit titles through Universal for “some time.” When asked if a single vendor system would be in place for the Breaking Dawn — Part 2 disc release in 2013, Beeks remained non-committal.

“It remains to be seen. We’re just getting familiar with Universal’s system,” Beeks said. “I think it is something we are going to determine over time.”

The executive remains optimistic about home entertainment, which he attributed in part to a 1% increase in second-half 2011 revenue due primarily to Blu-ray Disc sales. Beeks said the packaged media conversion rates on theatrical titles between Lionsgate and Summit were similar and strong going forward.

“With VOD conversions up and Internet VOD conversions coming up dramatically and all of the new SVOD providers … we’re very bullish on the home entertainment business overall,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lionsgate is creating Netflix’s second original scripted series (after “Lilyhammer”), “Orange is the New Black,” a one-hour comedic drama from “Weeds” creator Jenji Kohan. The show begins streaming in early 2013.

“We’re big Netflix fans. … We’ve done extremely well with them,” said Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer. “We love that they were there to create a whole new revenue stream for serialized shows like ‘Mad Men’ and ‘Weeds.’ But there’s a whole new group of [digital] buyers out there not only in the U.S., but internationally. That’s what leads me to believe that competition obviously and demand creates upward pricing.”

Tulsa World giving away Breaking Dawn Part 1 DVD.
9 Feb 2012 / admin

Source

This is your third and final chance to win a copy of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1″ on DVD before you can buy it this weekend.

The winner will have to answer a trivia question, and it’s the most difficult puzzler this week.

You will either have to be the most loyal of my readers to recall the answer, or you’ll need to know how to look up information in the Tulsa World archives (search at the top of our home page). Or you’ll need to guess.

The question: This past year I interviewed three different actors who appear in “Breaking Dawn, Part 1.” I ran stories on each of them, including Ashley Greene (she plays Alice Cullen) and Elizabeth Reaser (Esme Cullen) in November in connection with the film’s release.
What actor did I write an article about early in 2011, in connection with another movie, although we did talk about “Twilight” movies, too?
Name him.

If you know the answer, respond on this blog before 9 p.m. Thursday.

A random drawing from all correct answers submitted to this question will decide the winner. The winner will be contacted and told when to pick up a copy of the new DVD on Friday.
